"Today, Taizé is a
place where hundreds of thousands of young
adults from every continent come to pray
and to prepare themselves to work for
peace, reconciliation and trust in the
world."

"Hundreds of thousands of young people
have gathered in Taizé through the years
around the central theme: inner life and human
solidarity. They come to search at the wellsprings
of faith for a meaning for their lives and then to
set off home again with renewed impetus. During a
week of prayer and sharing with young adults from
so many different nations they prepare themselves
to take on responsibilities in their own situations
at home."
"Three times each day, everyone
gathers in the "Church of Reconciliation" for
prayer together. The church was built in 1962 and
was enlarged in 1990-1. The "songs of Taizé"
are easily recognizable. They are made up of a
simple phrase taken up again and again, in many
different languages, and they are a way of
expressing a basic reality, quickly grasped by the
mind and then gradually penetrating the entire
person. In the evening, the sung prayer continues
far into the night. Meanwhile, brothers remain in
the church to listen to those who wish to talk
about a personal problem or question."
"The
Saturday evening prayer is celebrated as a vigil of
the Resurrection, a festival of light. On Friday
evenings, the icon of the Cross is placed in the
centre of the Church and those who wish can come
and pray around it in silence as a way of
entrusting to God their own burdens and those of
others, and so accompanying the Risen Christ who
remains close to all who are undergoing
trial."
